Mertcury does not WHOLLY own Tohatsu. Mercury bought 49% of Tohatsu of Japan 10 years ago.

The same relationship they have with Tracker boats. That is the reason you see so many small Mercs are simply re-labeled Tohatsus. Mercury is also in a real estate 'deal' with Tohatsu, where Merc owns a portion of the factory and the land and Tohatsu leases it from them. It is a sly way of getting around Japanese Law that states a foreign entity has limited ownership of a Japanese Manufacturer. As of 2008, all 30hp and under Mercurys are Tohatsus. Not sure if that statement was true a year ago???? Though they own '49%' of Tohatsu, they sure seem to control a lot of what goes on at the Tokyo factory.

I kinda go on the notion that if you own the factory called 'Magnum Enterprises', and I own the land it is on and the buildings, and 49% of the 'company' 'Magnum Enterprises', I pretty much control your business. Without the land and factory, you really have only a name.

Re: asking a? About a 25 hp evanrude tracker boat motor Put the dadgum thing back together and find out which cylinder is not firing. Then troubleshoot from there to find out why it isn't firing. You find out which is not firing by pulling one plug wire at a time to see which one has no effect when pulled. Hint: Don't pull the wires with your bare hands while running. Pull one while not running and ground it, then start the motor and see the results.

Hey, it could be as simple as a bad spark plug, or as bad as a blown piston. You have to troubleshoot it from where you are. Re: asking a? About a 25 hp evanrude tracker boat motor With the motor off. Put motor in gear, advance throttle to wide open throttle. Check the butterfly on the carb. It should be wide open.

Also check to make sure the neutral safety switch rod is not engaging the spark advance plate. If that all checks out, make sure your motor isn't overheating. It should have a good tell tale stream of water, and the head temperature should be around 145 degrees. If the motor is overheating, a sensor puts the motor into 'slow mode' and will not go over 2000 rpm. On the left transom mount clamp there should be a motor identification sticker. The number will tell what year your motor is, and I would recommend getting a OMC service manual for your motor. Used manuals can be found on ebay at about half price a new one.

This manual will help you greatly in knowing and repairing your motor. OMC is the best manual, the 'other' manuals are just about worthless, and a total waste of money.

Re: asking a? About a 25 hp evanrude tracker boat motor Your year model went to the CD2 ignition, which included the sensor coil in the powerpack and both are under the flywheel. I'd suggest you get an induction timing light and test each plug wire while running wot on the lake. This might take 2 people to be on the safe side.OMC only utilized this CD2 ignition from 89-92 then went back to separate sensor coil/powerpack.with the powerpack no longer under the flywheel.
