I do not think it is any more likely that water could enter the exhaust manifold with this system than it would with the regular exhaust elbow. Any thoughts, please?? Also, I have no 12 vts. On the fuel solenoid when trying to start the unit. The wiring is as inaccessible as everything else on the generator.Any thoughts there? I bought the OEM elbow from Cummins Northeast, Inc., Syracuse, NY, 9/8/2006. So, you can get it from any Cummins Power Systems location anywhere. For our Series AA MDJE, circa 1975, the elbow p/n is 155-1058. The Cummins cost in 8/2006 was $125.60, not 'over $300.' I'm a fan of factory parts where possible, so that's what I did. You can download the 'Operators Manual and Parts Catalog' here: This download is a little annoying, since each page is its own download, but at least someone took the time to scan it. I did find it somewhere as a.pdf document, but I can't locate that citation now. Maybe someone else knows. If you Google 'Onan MDJE Parts Manual,' you'll find a site where you can download wiring diagrams for the alternator end and the engine end. I got my circuit diagrams from Cummins Power Systems in Baltimore, over the counter.
The 2nd shift parts guy there, Bruce, maintains several loose leaf binders of nothing but electrical diagrams for Cummins and Onan equipment. He provides them on request, free. I ass/u/me this is Cummins policy. As far as the 12v missing is concerned, another poster talked about an inline fuse. Could be that.
Could also be a cranky 30 y/o thermal high temperature shutdown safety switch, located on the left side of the block, between the block and the electrical control boxes. Hard to service/replace, but could be bypassed to test for starting. Hope this is useful to you.
